Breastfeeding education and support in a group setting. Each group is facilitated by a breastfeeding specialist. Participants will have the opportunity to weigh their baby, hear what is working for other mothers, receive information and support, and make connections.

HOMEWARD Home Health Care provides comprehensive, coordinated services to patients within a 50-mile radius of Ames. From our specialists to our health aides, each member of the experienced HOMEWARD staff is specially trained in the delivery of in-home health care.

Services:

  • Skilled nursing care. Under a physician's order, registered nurses are available to provide skilled nursing care and serve as the primary supervisor of other in-home services.
  • Skilled services. This includes physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy and medical social services.
  • Home health aides. Our aides are trained to provide compassionate personal care, assisting in the patient's comfort and well-being.
  • Homemaker services. Anyone needing assistance with housekeeping, shopping or other personal needs can call on our caring homemaker staff.
  • Lifeline. This is a 24-hour emergency response system.
  • Meals on Wheels. Nutritious noontime meals are available in Ames 365 days a year to those confined to their homes or unable to cook.
  • Alzheimer's support group
  • free pre-natal visits from HOMEWARD nurse. Information is provided about parenting, child care, and other community resources. A family development specialist offers assistance to families in connecting with community resources and continual support after the birth of your baby, including a follow-up visit by the HOMEWARD nurse

Public Health nurses provides skilled nursing care, information on healthy lifestyle practices, and encourages changes for better health. This service is available to every citizen (of all ages) and is provided locally in every county. Skilled nursing services are provided by professional staff or associated paraprofessionals. The service available varies by county. Public Health Nurses also provide information and assistance to link families with local community resources for health and social needs.
