Camp Courageous of Iowa is a recreational and respite care facility for individuals with disabilities located in Jones County, Iowa. The camp philosophy is all people, regardless of ability level, have the right to opportunities found in the world around them.
Camp Courageous offers a variety of services including week long camp sessions, respite care weekends, winter camper care, family camp sessions, outdoor education sessions, and Courageous Travels. The camp operates primarily on donations without government assistance, formal sponsorship, or paid fundraisers. On an annual basis, Camp Courageous serves thousands of individuals with special needs ranging in age from 1 to 105.

Eligibility:
Individuals with a developmental or physical disabilities or health conditions ranging in age from three to adulthood. Individuals must be medically stable and must not be a safety risk to others in order to attend Camp Courageous.

Respite Care is short-term care of an individual with a disability who is living at home. The Respite Care Program at Camp Courageous of Iowa provides a weekend of fun and adventure for any person with a physical or mental disability. The Respite Care Program at Camp Courageous of Iowa provides a weekend of fun and adventure for any person with a physical or mental disability. Weekends run from Friday 7:00 pm to Sunday 1:00 pm.
Services:
Provides a safe, caring, supported environment for individuals with disabilities to participate in activities such as arts, crafts, swimming, sensory awareness, out-cooking, camping, pony rides, canoeing, etc. A registered nurse is available.
Eligibility:
Respite care is open to any individual with a mental or physical disability living at home. Age is not a restriction. Fee is $175 with a $50 non-refundable deposit (43 waiver units).
Intake Process:
Request dates for each weekend occurs two to three weeks prior to the scheduled weekend (see schedule on website). Make a request using the camp’s web site or leave a phone message at 319-465-5916, ext. 2320 at 8:00 AM on the request date for the weekend desired.
