Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS) are supportive, directive, and teaching interventions provided in a community- or home-based care environment designed to improve the individual’s skills for effective functioning with family, peers, and community in an age-appropriate manner.

Your child or young adult may benefit from BHIS services for issues such as:

  • family, school or peer conflict
  • change in sleep or eating patterns
  • loss of planning and organizational skills
  • impulsive behaviors such as running away, substance use, verbally and/or physically acting out
  • risk of out-of-home placement

Services:

  • Home visits
  • Skill instruction
  • Crisis intervention

Eligibility:

BHIS serves individuals, aged 4 to 20, with Title XIX benefits through Medicaid. To participate in BHIS, an individual must secure a clinical diagnostic assessment with a licensed practitioner.

Program: HOPES

Healthy Opportunities for Parents to Experience Success (HOPES) is a voluntary community based home visitation program for families living in Humboldt County. The program goals are to promote child health and development, improve family relationships, promote positive parenting and family interaction, prevent child abuse and neglect, as well as infant mortality and morbidity.

The Humboldt County HOPES program is funded by Building Families Early Childhood Area.

Services:

  • Advocate for and link families to appropriate community services.
  • Teach, demonstrate and coach parents on how to care for their child.
  • Promote nurturing parent – child interaction.
  • Teach and model appropriate parent behavior and methods of discipline.
  • Provide prenatal information and support.

Eligibility:

Humboldt County residents who are expecting a child, or have a child between the ages of birth – 3 years.

Program: Parent Pals

Parent Pals is coordinated intake program, linking parents to home visiting programs and other resources in their community. Parent Pals helps strengthen families through home visitations, encouraging positive parenting strategies, and promoting child health and development.

Parent Pals is funded through the Iowa Department of Public Health and is managed by LSI.

  • Advocate for and link families to home visiting programs and other community services.
  • Provide access to other resources

Eligibility:

Open to parents who are pregnant or parenting a child under the age of 5.
