Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS) are supportive, directive, and teaching interventions provided in a community- or home-based care environment designed to improve the individual’s skills for effective functioning with family, peers, and community in an age-appropriate manner.
Your child or young adult may benefit from BHIS services for issues such as:
- family, school or peer conflict
- change in sleep or eating patterns
- loss of planning and organizational skills
- impulsive behaviors such as running away, substance use, verbally and/or physically acting out
- risk of out-of-home placement
Services:
- Home visits
- Skill instruction
- Crisis intervention
Eligibility:
BHIS serves individuals, aged 4 to 20, with Title XIX benefits through Medicaid. To participate in BHIS, an individual must secure a clinical diagnostic assessment with a licensed practitioner.

Program: Respite Services
Respite services were developed as a way to help people with disabilities live in a community, or home-based setting. Respite provides a temporary break from care-giving responsibilities for parents or guardians caring for a child or adult with a disability who lives in their home. Individual Respite is a one-on-one service for the individual receiving care. Group Respite may consist of one direct care provider supervising up to three individuals.

- Provide support to families and individuals
- Opportunities to participate in community activities.

Eligibility:
Services are often provided through the use of the following Home and Community-Based Services Waivers (HCBS): Intellectual Disabilities, Children’s Mental Health Waiver, Brain Injury, and Health and Disability Waiver.
