The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants works with individuals who have been forcibly or voluntarily uprooted. The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants' mission is to protect the rights and address the needs of persons in forced or voluntary migration worldwide and support their transition to a dignified life.

The USCRI Des Moines Field Office has been welcoming newcomers to Des Moines, Iowa since 2010. Newly arrived refugees receive comprehensive services including housing placement, cultural orientation, school enrollment, healthcare coordination, and employment preparation and placement. Additional services offered at USCRI ‘ Des Moines include pro- and low-bono immigration legal services through the Legal Services Program, extended healthcare case management through the Refugee Wellness Program, and relationship enhancement workshops through the Refuge Family Strengthening Program.
