Program: Telecommunications Access Iowa
Telecommunications Access Iowa (TAI), a program created by the Iowa Utilities Board, provides vouchers that will cover up to 95% to 99% of the cost for specialized telecommunications equipment to qualified Iowans who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or have Speech Difficulty. Individuals choose the equipment that best meets their needs. Equipment options include adaptive phones which utilize landlines, and iPads with specialized applications.

Eligibility:
Iowans who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or have Speech Difficulty. Applicants must be older than 5 years of age (or able to use the telecommunications equipment). Income guidelines apply. Income must be at or below the following chart:
Annual Total Family Income:
1 person – $56,000
2 persons – $65,000
3 persons – $74,000
4 persons – $83,000
(add $9,000 for each additional person)
Intake Process:
Application forms can be received via mail or download from the TAI website. Eligible applicants will receive vouchers from TAI. Applicants must provide signature from their doctor, audiologist, voc rehab counselor, state or federal agency representative, or any other licensed professional in the field of hearing or speech to verify the need for specialized telecommunications equipment to assist communication over the telephone.
