The Financial Capability Network is located at Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families. We maximize the potential of financial education. The Network provides low to moderate income individuals and families a pathway of financial literacy and financial inclusion that leads to financial stability. Implementation of the program expands participants' knowledge and develops the skills necessary to help them understand their financial situation in addition to motivating them to take action.

United Way Worldwide and Wells Fargo teamed up in 2012 to develop a nationwide network to provide financial counseling . Eight United Ways across the nation, including the United Way of Central Iowa, were selected to launch the Network.

HiSET tests give adults a chance to earn their jurisdiction's or State's High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma, which certifies they have attained the educational level of a high school graduate. The HiSET test is a series of five tests covering writing, science, math, literature and the arts, and social studies. These tests require the test taker to apply reading, math, language, and critical thinking skills. Tests are taken one at a time, and can be taken in any order, as long as writing and math are not last. Passing the HiSET test series allows student to earn their High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED).

Bidwell Riverside Center offers a toy pantry during the holiday season. A parent/guardian may choose 1 toy for each child signed-up. Must pre-register.

Services:

Eligibility:

Families with children ages 18 and younger. No income or area restrictions. Must have received a meal package from Bidwell in November or December 2021.

Intake Process:

Sign-up starts December 1st at the Bidwell Food Pantry during normal pantry hours (Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). Choose a time to shop the Toy Pantry upon signing up. Bring photo identification for the adult who picks up toys. Toys will be available on a first come, first served basis. Families can utilize the Toy Pantry as well as Toys for Tots.

National Career Readiness Certificate is a portable credential that demonstrates achievement and a certain level of workplace employability skills in applied mathematics, locating information, and reading for information. Assessments measure “real world” skills that employers believe are critical to job success. Test questions are based on situations in the everyday work world.

Services:

The NCRC assists a job candidate to:

  • Demonstrate to others (educators and employers) their transferable employability skills.
  • Compare their work readiness skill level to the skill levels required for jobs they want.
  • Once employers know their skill level, they can determine who will be a “good fit” for job openings.
