The Four Oaks Parents as Teachers program is a free, voluntary, family education and support program designed to provide practical, timely information on child development to families. It provides information, support and encouragement parents need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life.

Public Health nurses provides skilled nursing care, information on healthy lifestyle practices, and encourages changes for better health. This service is available to every citizen (of all ages) and is provided locally in every county. Skilled nursing services are provided by professional staff or associated paraprofessionals. The service available varies by county. Public Health Nurses also provide information and assistance to link families with local community resources for health and social needs.

Services:

Public Health nursing services vary by county and may include, but are not limited to:

  • Pediatric home care
  • Immunizations (direct or referral)
  • Physical, occupational, and speech therapies
  • Health teaching
  • Nutrition counseling and teaching
  • Initial newborn visit
  • Family support home visiting
  • Postpartum visits
  • STI testing & treatment

Program: The NEST Program

This is an educational incentive program. Participants earn points for healthy behaviors and encouragement to receive early and regular prenatal medical care. The points are redeemed for needed baby items.

Participants must have attendance slips signed by the educator/facilitator when participating in approved classes, workshops, or healthy behaviors.

  • Baby supplies
  • Encourage baby and maternal healthcare

Eligibility:

Pregnant women and families with children under age three, who reside in Mills County.
