Stewards of Children is a training program that teaches how to implement effective child sexual abuse prevention policies, recognize the signs of sexual abuse in children, and react responsibly if abuse occurs. It incorporates a combination of survivor stories, expert advice, and practical guidance.

Services:

  • Provide increased awareness of the prevalence, consequences and circumstances of child sexual abuse
  • New skills to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse
  • Proactive, positive change to organizational policies and procedures
  • Individual commitment to action via a personal prevention plan.

First Steps is a parent support group. The group covers the Active Parenting and Stewards of Children curriculum at least once each year. Other discussion topics include: sibling rivalry, nutrition, safety, and other family strengthening topics. Once a month a special speaker visits to discuss a topic chosen by the group members. Childcare is provided for free during class.

Friends and Fitness is a time for mothers to have respite from parenting. Children are placed in childcare and provided lunch. Mothers choose between land or water fitness and participate in a fitness class. Mothers then take a shower and do their makeup and hair by themselves. The mothers are served lunch together and have the opportunity to visit and and make friends while the children are safe in childcare.

The Teen Parent Program services young parents of Johnson County who are under 23 years old. Home visitation services are provided to help families with parenting skills, child development education, and connecting with area resources.
