The first shelter for runaway youth in Iowa, Rosedale Shelter and its staff offer youth in crisis a safe, structured home environment in historic Old Town Ames. The facility can house up to 15 youth.

Services:

For youth needing placement outside the home, Rosedale's team works together towards a common goal to reunite youth with families whenever possible. Services available include:

  • Onsite food, shelter and 24-hour adult supervision
  • Emergency need assistance, including clothing and personal hygiene items
  • Crisis mediation
  • Group and individual support
  • Referral for specialized services

For those who stay for an extended period of time additional services include:

  • Area Education Agency classroom
  • Group discussion on educational topics
  • Individual, group and family counseling
  • Mental health assessments and counseling
  • Substance abuse evaluation and diagnosis
  • Court testimony and recommendation

Eligibility:

Services are available for youth who:

  • Have run away or are homeless
  • Need help resolving family conflicts
  • Have been abused or neglected
  • Are adjudicated and waiting for court action

Parent placements are accepted from a limited area on a sliding fee scale. Within 24 hours, the parent(s), child and a YSS therapist/mediator will schedule one session to assess the presenting problems, identify safety issues and formulate a plan of action with the goal of unification.
