The Four Oaks Achievement Academy offers out-of-school-time programs and is designed to provide children with a safe, healthy atmosphere to learn and grow. Thanks to innovative programming by the Four Oaks Achievement Academy, children and youth in this program for at-risk kids will be anything but bored. It is located at four different locations in the Cedar Rapids area (The Bridge, Jane Boyd Community House, Cedar Valley Resource Center, and Hawthorne Hills) and is an all-day program during the summer. During the school year, Achievement Academy is held after school at the same location.

Four Oaks After-School programming is for children with behavioral and emotional problems. The program is available after school and on weekdays when school is not in session. In addition, there is a full-day summer program. Programming includes social, recreational and educational activities carried out in a closely supervised and structured environment. Behavior management, social skill building, and problem-solving skills are emphasized.

Behavioral Health Intervention Services(BHIS) are supportive, directive and teaching interventions provided in a community-based or residential group care environment designed to improve the child's level of functioning as it relates to a mental illness, with a primary goal of assisting the individual and his or her family to learn age-appropriate skills to manage their behavior, and regain or retain self-control. The clinician works with the child and family to improve anger management, behaviors, peer/family relationships, communication, problem-solving, social skills and conflict resolution. Abbe Oaks, collaboration between Four Oaks and Abbe Mental Health Center, also offers behavioral health services to the Cedar Rapids and Vinton communities.

Eligibility:

The BHIS program at Four Oaks serves children with active Title XIX benefits through Medicaid. To participate in BHIS, an individual must secure a clinical diagnostic assessment with a licensed practitioner.

The FaDSS (Family Development and Self-Sufficiency) Program is a supportive service to assist Family Investment Program (FIP) families with significant or multiple barriers to reach self-sufficiency. FaDSS partners with PROMISE JOBS, an employment and training program for families receiving cash assistance through FIP. FaDSS provides services that promote, empower, and nurture families towards economic and emotional self-sufficiency.

The Psychiatric Medical Institute for Children (PMIC) is designed especially for children who present serious emotional and behavioral problems. The basic foundation of this program is designed to develop positive self-concepts, social, and problem-solving skills while integrating child and family treatment components.

The PMIC system is intended to serve children who need an intensive treatment program for an extended period of time. Each of the twelve facilities in Iowa determines its own criteria for eligibility, service descriptions, and direct-care provider requirements.
