Foster Care Scholarships for children 14 years of age and older in state paid foster care (family foster care, group foster care, supervised apartment foster care and shelter care) and are living in Iowa. Each eligible child will be allowed up to $300 to be used for the extras that are not covered through foster care payments. Examples of acceptable use of these funds include: extra-curricular activities (class trip-fees, a summer camp, band, chorus, athletics, etc.); educational expenses related to significant events and occurrences for adolescents such as: senior pictures, prom, class ring, yearbook, etc.; and other such expenses which would benefit adolescents in foster care but are not covered by the state's foster care or Medicaid program.
Youth and Shelter Services (YSS), through the Iowa Foster Care Youth Council will administer the funds.

  • Grants for extracurricular activities & expenses related to significant events

Youth in the Iowa foster care system ages 14 and older.

Program: Kinship Fundz

Kinship Fundz are available for youth placed in foster care where the parent/guardian IS NOT receiving a foster care monthly stipend. Please note this funds are limited and will only be available until they are completely used up. Kinship Fundz are first come, first served until funds expire.

Services:

Grants can be used to pay for the following types of assistance:

  • College application fees
  • Sports registration/equipment
  • Camp
  • Home lessons (music, dance, art, etc.)
  • Driver's Education
  • School activities (prom clothing, senior photos, class ring, school trips, etc.0
  • Safety seats
  • Respite – $20/day up to $300
  • Parenting classes
  • Essential household furniture
  • Essential household needs
  • Deposit/rent for securing placement
  • Home modifications

Eligibility:

Youth age birth – 18 years that live in any type of “out of home” placement (guardianship, kinship, fictive kin, relative, suitable other, licensed or not licensed) who are living in Iowa.
