Telecommunications Access Iowa

Telecommunications Access Iowa (TAI) helps Iowans who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or have speech difficulties who struggle to communicate over the telephone apply for telecommunications equipment for very little to no cost. TAI is a statewide program overseen by the Iowa Utilities Board. TAI offers vouchers that help pay for 95% to 99% of the average cost of the specialized equipment. The goal is to provide a barrier-free access to communication over the telephone and a simple way to obtain this equipment. This allows them equivalent access to the same communication services and products as people with normal hearing and speech have. TAI is all about options and choices. An applicant chooses the equipment that best meets their communication needs – from traditional landline phones to wireless equipment. Applying for a voucher is a very easy and streamline process, thus allowing a qualified individual to get the equipment they need.
