Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) is a program for Iowa children to get preventive health care services including oral health services. Iowa Care for Kids helps families access regular checkups and health care for children to support their growth, development, and well-being.
Services:
- Regular medical checkups
- Information about growth, diet and development
- Immunizations (shots) like measles and mumps
- Regular vision checkups, and glasses
- Regular hearing checkups, and hearing aids
- Speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy
- Help with mental and behavioral health
- Regular dental checkups
Eligibility:
If your child has Iowa Medicaid and is younger than age 21, Iowa Care for Kids is included in their Medicaid benefits. Iowa Care for Kids is not included for children who have Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa health insurance (sometimes called Hawki).
Intake Process:
Parents or guardians should contact their local DHS office to enroll in Medicaid. This automatically enrolls the child in the EPSDT program. Families can contact their local EPSDT program for referrals to Medicaid covered services.
