Support groups are held seasonally, four times per year, for six consecutive Monday evenings. Each support group starts with supper, and everyone then divides into smaller peer groups based on age, where they do a variety of age-appropriate activities to facilitate discussion sharing.

Services:

Together, we work to:

  • recognize how grief affects our minds and our bodies
  • identify and accept grief emotions like anger and guilt
  • learn healthy coping skills
  • create rituals to honor our loved ones who have died

Support Groups will differ from one to the next, utilizing varied activities, with the goal of providing participants with a range of opportunities to process their grief.

Eligibility:

Children (Kindergarten and above), teens, and adults who have experienced the death of a loved one. Childcare is available for younger children upon request.

Intake Process:

All grief support programs are provided free of charge. Amanda the Panda requires a refundable deposit of $35 per person up to $100 maximum per family. The deposit needs to be mailed or dropped off to the office before registration will be finalized. If you have a financial hardship that would prevent you from registering for Amanda the Panda services, please contact the office at 515.223.4847 to discuss other options for finalizing your enrollment.

At Camp Amanda the Panda, children, teens and adults find a place of comfort and support as they connect with others who have experienced the death of a loved one. Together, with the companionship of trained volunteer camp counselors, campers gather to honor, remember, learn, and grow in their grief journey. Campers are grouped with peers their own age and enjoy an overnight at the scenic Camp Wesley Woods in Indianola, Iowa.

Services:

Amanda the Panda camp counselors and volunteers lead the campers through age-appropriate activities that focus on remembrance and healing.

Some of the activities include:

  • Tie-dye t-shirts
  • Games
  • Campfire
  • Wagon Ride
  • Low-Ropes Course for teens
  • Candlelight Ceremony
  • Small Group Sessions
  • Balloon Release
