Our Safe and Healthy Housing program is available for low-income families that live in the greater Des Moines Metro area and need repairs to their home to maintain safety for the resident(s).
Services:
- Plumbing
- Electric
- Heating
- Air conditioning
- Wheelchair ramps
- Grab bars
- Safety lighting at night
- Broken windows
- Stair railings
- Any other immediate danger to your well-being
They will not provide any major construction services *
Eligibility:
Eligibility is based on a tier system they use that is looked at your household income and number of people living in the home. There is some flexibility to this if you are close to their eligibility requirements. You must reside in the Polk County/Warren County area to be eligible. You must own your home; they will not work with rentals or contract homes.
Intake Process:
Call to get an application sent to you or come in to the office to pick up an application for the program. It is not available online.
Hours:
Monday through Friday 9AM-5PM. Call to verify a staff member is in office, since all may be out at once for home visits.
