That is why the Iowa Department of Health & Human Services has created YourLifeIowa.org so Iowans can chat live, text, or call and get reliable information and treatment options, and find nearby help. Your Life Iowa is your everyday life support.

Smoke Free Homes provides smoke free rental property listings on the Smoke Free Homes Registry free as a public service. The program works to eliminate second and thirdhand smoke exposure for renters, to help create a safer and healthier living environment.

Healthy Child Care Iowa supports local Maternal and Child Health agencies to define the role and responsibilities of the Child Care Nurse Consultant. CCNCs work with Iowa Early Care and Education programs to provide free services. The CCNC program is evidence-based and helps to ensure that children have access to healthy and safe care. CCNC’s are required to complete the Iowa Training Project for Child Care Nurse Consultants (ITPCCNC) training.  The purpose of ITPCCNC is to expand the nurse’s knowledge and skills to work with early childhood care and education providers.

At the Iowa Early Hearing Detection and Intervention program, we work to ensure that all newborns and toddlers with hearing loss are identified as early as possible and provided with appropriate audiological, educational and medical intervention. We also support families of children with hearing loss so that they are equipped with necessary information and resources. We are dedicated to a lifelong care model, providing unbiased support to families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. The work we do is driven by the national EHDI goals (outlined below) that aim to advance EHDI systems of care.

Eligibility:

The hearing screening program is voluntary for all newborn infants. Children from birth through age three.

The Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program oversees blood lead testing of children, provides case management services when children are identified as lead-poisoned, and conducts education and outreach services regarding childhood lead poisoning. Childhood lead poisoning has significant effects on the health of children and on community health. Lead has adverse effects on nearly all organ systems in the body. It is especially harmful to the developing brains and nervous systems of children under the age of six years.

Services:

  • Identification and case management for children with elevated blood lead levels;
  • Identification and control of lead paint hazards;
  • Surveillance of elevated blood lead levels in children to monitor progress; and
  • Provide education and outreach regarding childhood lead poisoning in communities and promote community involvement.

Children under the age of six years.

With Care for Yourself, many women are eligible for free or low-cost breast cancer screenings (clinical breast exams and mammograms), and cervical cancer screenings (Pap testing and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) testing).

Services:

  • Free or Low-Cost Cervical Cancer Screenings (Pap testing and HPV testing)

Eligibility:

Iowa women aged 21-64 with a monthly income of $3,137 (add $1,070 for each additional household member) can receive cervical cancer screenings, including Pap and HPV tests as well as breast exams, mammograms, and any needed diagnostic procedures.
