The IPCC specializes in providing expert advice for human poisonings only. If you suspect your pet has been poisoned, we recommend contacting your veterinarian immediately or reaching out to a dedicated animal poison control center. The Pet Poison Helpline (800-213-6680 or 855-764-7661) and the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) offer 24/7 assistance. Safe at Home is an address confidentially program that provides participants with a substitute address to prevent the participants’ addresses from appearing on public records.

Safe at Home is NOT:

  • A witness protection program.
  • Capable of shielding you from legal obligations, such as custody disputes.
  • Able to hide your address from real estate records, such as the purchase of a home or office space. However, renters’ addresses will be protected.

This program helps survivors improve their lives with the following services:

  • substitute address
  • mail forwarding service
  • confidential voter registration and absentee voting

Eligibility:

Any adult victim of domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking or stalking; any person living in the same home with the victim, any minor child or children, or an incapacitated person who is in fear for his or her safety can apply to SAH. SAH participants must be Iowa residents. Eligible victims have taken some action with law enforcement against their offender, such as filing a complaint or seeking a protective order.

Intake Process:

Victims or survivors must complete application forms prescribed by the Secretary of
State. The application can be submitted by the United States Postal Service or via an application assistant through the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Abuse or the Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault.

If you have further questions about the program, please refer to our brochureFAQ, or contact us at safeathome@iowa.gov or 515-725-7233.
